Fourth Grade Visits Cemetery

Submitted by dorie.thatcher on

Fourth graders walked up to the Salem City Cemetery last week to participate in several learning activities. Students used subtraction to solve and find how many years people lived, looked for people who had served in the military, and also tried to find the person who was born the earliest in history.

Students observed the plants and animals that they saw, as well as the weather and clouds.  They also looked for unique designs on headstones and did pencil rubbings.

A Visit to the State Capitol

100 years ago, in October of 1916, Utah's State Capitol was dedicated.  Students from across the state were invited to tour the Capitol to take part in the Centennial Celebration.  Salem Elementary fourth and fifth-graders accepted the invitation and made their way to Salt Lake City.

As arriving in Salt Lake City, the bus turned the corner to approach the building. Students were in awe with the magnificent view before them, the State Capitol.  Excitement then filled the bus and students were anxious to begin their tour.

Fourth Grade Attends the Symphony

Submitted by dorie.thatcher on

Fourth graders showed up to school last Friday in their best dress anticipating the opportunity to attend a concert by the Utah Symphony Orhestra at Maple Mountain High School.  As students walked into the auditorium they were excited to see all the instruments and hear the musicians warming up.  During the concert students enjoyed familiar tunes, such as that from Sleeping Beauty, and participated in learning and clapping different beats per measure.  Salem Elementary students were some of the most well behaved students during the concert, not to mention the best looking.
