Fifth Grade Science Fair

The 5th graders did a fantastic job with the Science Fair last week. They planned and executed excellent projects, and presented them to parents and students. The students had fun and learned a lot through the Science Fair experience!

Parents and Pastries

What is a great way to start the day?  Reading of course!  On March 22 at 8:15 a.m. students are invited to bring their parents and a book to celebrate Parents and Pastries.  Come and join us in the cafeteria to enjoy pastries and read stories with your children.

Kindergarten Grandparent's Day

Last week Salem Elementary Kindergarteners invited their grandparents to come to school with them for Grandparents Day.  It is such a fun day for Kindergarteners.  They are so excited to have the opportunity to be the 'teacher' and teach their grandparents some of the things they do each day at school.  Grandparents are always amazed at how much their grandchild knows and has learned in Kindergarten!  A lot has changed since they were in kindergarten!

Mr. Welburn Reads to Students

Each month our Principal, Mr. Welburn, reads to the students here at Salem Elementary.  Students are always very excited to hear the stories that he shares, and the stories are remembered and talked about throughout the year.  It has been a fun way for the students to get to know their principal a little better.  They look up to him for his love of reading, and appreciate him taking the time to share it with them.

Dental Presentation

Dr. Benjamin Hulse, DDS visited Salem Elementary second graders to teach them about proper dental hygeine.  Students learned about the affects sugar has on their teeth and how to properly brush and floss their teeth.     Students were smiling when they each received a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss.  Dr. Hulse practice is Salem Smiles, which just recently opened it's doors for business. Thank you Dr. Hulse for the wonderful presentation.

PTA Val-O-Grams

Val-O-Grams are now on sale before school onle on February 11th-13th.  They are 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00.  Please be sure to come to school early so that you have enough time to buy, fill out, and sort your Val-O-Grams before school starts.  PTA helpers will be there to help students fill out the Val-O-Grams more quickly.  Parents are also welcome to come and help their child.

January Star Award

Salem Elementary students are given the challenge to work on academic and personal goals throughout the year.  When students complete the required number of goals, students are awarded the Star Award during a school assembly, the first of which was held on January 25th.   During the assembly we were priveleged to hear the kindergarten classes recite the Preamble to the Constitution.  Congratulations to those who earnied the Super Star Award.

Christmas Bells

Mrs. Clayson's and Miss Savage's class were lucky to have one of their student's mother and grandmother come into their classrooms to enjoy, with the students, some Christmas music.   Students had a wonderful time ringing bells to some of their favorite songs.  It was such a great way to bring music into the classroom and to celebrate the season.
