On Monday, October 7, 2013, the Daughters of Utah Pioneer volunteers welcomed Salem Elementary second-graders to Heritage Park, located on the north-west end of Salem Pond.
In second-grade, students learn and examine important aspects of their community and how their community has changed over time.
Second Graders at Salem Elementary visited the Salem Post Office to mail their "Flat Travelers". While they were there, the Postmaster took studetns behind the scenes to show them how they get their mail.

Salem Elementary was recently the recipient of a generous donation from Agel's non-profit organization, Agel Cares. The donation is much appreciated and will benefit the students of our school.

On Friday, May 10, first-graders performed their Patriotic Program for their parents. They all did an amazing job with their parts and singing the songs!
Students in Mrs. Thatcher's second grade class had the opportunity to incubate chicken and button quail eggs as they learned about the basic needs of animals and how external features affect an animals' ability to survive. Students were very excited when the chicks hatched from the eggs after 21 days. Students were able to care for the chicks for a few days in class, and then some students were even able to take them home. It was a great learning experience for all.
Jamie Rolfe visited her sons' classes and brought a special surprise with her from her family owned business, Olson's Greenhouse. She brought enough flowers and soil for students in Mrs. James and Mrs. Thatcher's class, as well as Mr. Stutz class to plant flower pots for their moms for Mother's Day. She also taught the students how to grow and take care of their plants. We so much appreciate the generosity of Jamie, and Olson's Greenhouse, for providing such a wonderful opportunity for students.
