On February 28th, the 4th graders at Salem Elementary celebrated a night of dancing with their parents. During fourth grade students are supposed to learn common folk dances and songs of Utah's history. Students worked for  5 weeks to learn folk dances set to authentic music. These included square dances, polka, and line dances. After learning all of the dances they invited a parent partner to come and dance with them after school. They enjoyed their time celebrating their learning with their families.

On April 3rd, the Fourth Graders were visited by the University of Utah's Museum on the Move. A fossil expert came to share fossil specimens with our students. They were allowed to explore all about ancient Utah life at five different stations. They were able to handle fossil specimens and make inferences about how and where they lived in Utah. They also used the information they gathered to speculate about what Utah was like millions of years ago. It was a fun day digging around in Utah's past.

Students in Mrs. Thatcher's second grade class had the opportunity to incubate chicken and button quail eggs as they learned about the basic needs of animals and how external features affect an animals' ability to survive.  Students were very excited when the chicks hatched from the eggs after 21 days.  Students were able to care for the chicks for a few days in class, and then some students were even able to take them home.  It was a great learning experience for all.
