Your future is key, so stay drug free!  Salem Elementary wears red to show they say no to drugs!

Kindergarten had a blast celebrating fall by weighing pumpkins, pretending to be bears, playing in the leaves, painting trees, and sorting fall items.

On Wednesday, Salem Elementary students received a wonderful surprise.  Harward Farms donated a pumpkin to each student in the school.  Students were grinning from ear to ear as they got to take a pumpkin home. Thank you Harward Farms!

The Discovery Gateway Children's Museum visited the Kindergartners at Salem Elementary. The Kindergartners did potential energy experiments with push and pull. They had a great time being scientist

Salem Elementary kindergarten visits the Salem City Fire Station.

Fourth graders walked up to the Salem City Cemetery last week to participate in several learning activities. Students used subtraction to solve and find how many years people lived, looked for people who had served in the military, and also tried to find the person who was born the earliest in history.  

Students observed the plants and animals that they saw, as well as the weather and clouds.  They also looked for unique designs on headstones and did pencil rubbings.

Fourth graders have been learning that the history of Utah has been shaped by many diverse people, events, challenges, and ideas. 

A presenter from our district came to our school to teach students what the Native people of Utah contributed to our state and about their way of life.  

Students enjoyed learning more about and seeing artifacts from Utah's Native tribes.

The 4th graders attended a presentation given by the Utah County Stormwater Coalition on Tuesday. The purpose of this presentation was to review the water cycle, to better educate our students about our watershed area, our role in water use and conservation, and some of the sources of storm water pollution.  Ask your 4th grader to share some of the great things they learned about our water supply today!

You won't just find beautiful sunflowers along the roadside, you might also run in to a few in the fourth grade hall as well.  Students did a fantastic job painting these sunflowers and writing poems about sunflowers using their five senses.  Makes for a "sun-sational" display in our hallway!

Fourth graders are learning about verbs and how to use strong verbs in their writing.  Since Halloween is soon approaching, what better way to teach using strong verbs than to burry some of our overused verbs.  RIP boring and weak verbs, our new verbs are quite lively.  Using strong and interesting verbs will make writing come to life!
