Salem:  Then and Now

On Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Daughters of Utah Pioneer volunteers, Linda Warren, Lorraine Underwood, Myrna Tolley, Helen Selman, and Lori Walker welcomed Salem Elementary second-graders to Heritage Park, located on the north-west end of Salem Pond.

In second-grade, students learn and examine important aspects of their community and how their community has changed over time.

Students are excited to read every day so they can watch their reading explode!

Salem Elementary students were given a real treat. They watched a rabbit being pulled from a hat, colored scarves magically appearing, and incredible juggling tricks, all courtesy of master magician Paul Brewer. Paul and his side kick, Chief, entertained the students during the Kick-off assembly for Ken Garff’s Road-to-Success reading program.

On Tuesday, November 21st, Salem Elementary held an assembly in recognition of their super star students.  This year students had an opportunity to enter special projects into a Reflections contest.  The Reflections contest gives students a chance to develop skills in the fine arts.  A few of the categories that students could enter into were 3D art, photography, and choreography.  Over thirty students from Salem Elementary entered into the Reflections contest this year.   At the recognition assembly, all the students who entered were recognized; some with certificates and some with trophie

Spelling Bee Winners: 1st Place--Jane Eyre, 2nd Place--Erin Parker, 3rd Place--Kyla Rogers.

Salem Elementary recently held their annual Spelling Bee.  The Bee included the top 37 4th, 5th, & 6th grade spellers.  The Bee was the longest in recent history with an amazing 351 words spelled in all.  Winners pictured: 1st Place--Jane Eyre, 2nd Place--Erin Parker, 3rd Place--Kyla Rogers.

January Super Star Awards

Super Star Award Assembly Jan 2010- 1st-3rd grades

Students at Salem Elementary have taken on the challenge of being and doing something more than expected.  They have set their sights to become Super Stars.  Each student is given the opportunity to complete a set of goals and if accomplished they receive an award for their efforts.  The goals include everything from academics, social, and personal growth.  Students, parents and teachers work together to help students reach their goals.  The students have all year to earn the reward but these students got it done early.  There will be an assembly every month for the students who have accomp

Recorder Concert

5th Grade Recorder Concert

The 5th graders at Salem Elementary have learned a new talent.  Starting in October the 5th grade students began learning to play a musical instrument called the recorder.  They practiced long and hard and learned to play a variety of music. In December the students put on a spectacular concert for parents and other community members.  The 5th grade classes also visited classrooms around the school to share their talent with the other students.  They did a great job!

Salem Elementary's annual 5th grade historical wax museum took on a new twist this year as security guards (fifty grade teachers Cary Abegg, Bob Stutz, and Chris Vest) donned security uniforms and carrying flashlights announced that dusk had fallen and all the historical figures came to life on the night of November 19th.  The students arose to the task with great costuming, backdrops, props and memorizd blurbs and gave the community and patrons of the school exciting biographical accounts of their lives.

Kool Kids from Salem Elementary are chosen each month for demonstrating exemplary acts of kindness.  These students have gone out of their way to serve their classmates and teachers.  They have proved themselves to be hard working and dedicated students.

Red Ribbon Week

Life flight landing at Salem Elementary

Red ribbon week is a national wide event that takes place in public schools to promote a drug and alcohol free life style.  To celebrate red ribbon week the students and staff at Salem Elementary participated in multiple events throughout the week including, a foot race and fashion show.  These events were accompanied by various dress-up days, such as pajama day, sport day, crazy clash day, all red day, and blue day.  A major highlight of the week was when the students got to watch a life flight helicopter land on the school grounds.  Various other emergency personnel also came to the schoo
