Salem:  Then and Now

On Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Daughters of Utah Pioneer volunteers, Linda Warren, Lorraine Underwood, Myrna Tolley, Helen Selman, and Lori Walker welcomed Salem Elementary second-graders to Heritage Park, located on the north-west end of Salem Pond.

In second-grade, students learn and examine important aspects of their community and how their community has changed over time.

Salem Elementary students were given a real treat. They watched a rabbit being pulled from a hat, colored scarves magically appearing, and incredible juggling tricks, all courtesy of master magician Paul Brewer. Paul and his side kick, Chief, entertained the students during the Kick-off assembly for Ken Garff’s Road-to-Success reading program.

Reflections

On Tuesday, November 21st, Salem Elementary held an assembly in recognition of their super star students.  This year students had an opportunity to enter special projects into a Reflections contest.  The Reflections contest gives students a chance to develop skills in the fine arts.  A few of the categories that students could enter into were 3D art, photography, and choreography.  Over thirty students from Salem Elementary entered into the Reflections contest this year.   At the recognition assembly, all the students who entered were recognized; some with cert

Salem Elementary Spelling Bee

Salem Elementary recently held their annual Spelling Bee.  The Bee included the top 37 4th, 5th, & 6th grade spellers.  The Bee was the longest in recent history with an amazing 351 words spelled in all.  Winners pictured: 1st Place--Jane Eyre, 2nd Place--Erin Parker, 3rd Place--Kyla Rogers.

January Super Star Awards

Students at Salem Elementary have taken on the challenge of being and doing something more than expected.  They have set their sights to become Super Stars.  Each student is given the opportunity to complete a set of goals and if accomplished they receive an award for their efforts.  The goals include everything from academics, social, and personal growth.  Students, parents and teachers work together to help students reach their goals.  The students have all year to earn the reward but these students got it done early.  There will be an assembly every month fo
