Marshmallow Challenge

Submitted by dorie.thatcher on

Mrs. Hooley's second grade class enjoyed a fun team building experience.  Each table was given 20 pieces of dry spaghetti, one marshmallow, a yard of tape, and a yard of string.  They were given exactly 18 minutes to build the tallest tower they could with their marshmallow on top.  They had to work together , with everone participating.  The table who worked together to build the tallest tower was the winner.  YAY!  Table 4 ended up being the winning table, however a good experience was had by all!

First Day, Hooray!

The first day of school can be hard for Mom and Dad.  Part of you feels excited, the other part feels sad.  For many years you've held their hand, and have been their loving guide. Now you know the time has come to leave them by my side.  It is only for a little while, as your child will learn and grow.  And at the end of everyday, they will share with you all they know.  So as you walk away, don't worry anymore.  Ill take care of all those precious gifts when you leave them at my door.    ~Author Unknown

Mrs. Larson Receives a Grant

Read it here. Read it there. Read it everywhere. Mrs. Larson was able to spend part of last school year and this last summer writing a proposal to donorschoose.org to tell them how amazing Salem Elementary is and how they could greatly benefit from using Kindle Fire Tablets in the classroom to read and access more electronic books. Through many gracious donors, Mrs. Larson's 4th grade class was able to receive 7 kindle fires.
