Fifth Grade Science Fair

Fifth-graders at Salem Elementary recently participated in the Fifth Grade Science Fair.  Science fairs are a great way for students to take an active role in science. Fifth-graders used the Scientific Method to help them in understanding and expanding their knowledge of a specific science topic of their choice.  Many hours were spent researching and developing their presentations.  Students were able to present their scientific findings to students at the school during the day, and then to their parents later that evening.

Salem Elementary had a blast with their Spirit Week Feb 29-Mar 2. It was full with crazy sock day, best dress day, Dr. Seuss Day, and of course SCHOOL COLORS!! This year, the students combined Make a Wish Fundraiser with their Spirit Week. They raised monies for a Spanish Fork six-year-old boy, Jacob. His wish is to go to Florida Theme Parks. To accomplish this, they had a Penny War during Spirit Week. Each class had a jar in their room, some teachers hid there's.

Mr. Welburn Reads to Students

Each month our Principal, Mr. Welburn, reads to the students here at Salem Elementary.  Students are always very excited to hear the stories that he shares, and the stories are remembered and talked about throughout the year.  It has been a fun way for the students to get to know their principal a little better.  They look up to him for his love of reading, and appreciate him taking some time to share it with them.

Kindergarten's Grandparents Day

Last week Salem Elementary Kindergarteners invited their Grandparents to come to school with them for Grandparents Day.  It is such a fun day for Kindergarteners.  They are so excited to have the opportunity to be the 'teacher' and teach their grandparents some of the things they do each day at school.  Grandparents are always amazed at how much their grandchild knows and has learned in Kindergarten!  A lot has changed since they were in kindergarten!

Salem Elementary recently held it's anual Spelling Bee.  It turned out to be an interesting one indeed, as brother and sister battled it out for the title of Spelling Bee Champ.  Finally, after several words, sixth grader Anna won the battle against her little brother Reed, a fourth-grader.  Goodwork to everyone who participated and congratulations to Sydney who placed third, Reed who placed second, and to Anna for winning this year's Spelling Bee.
