Mr. Welburn Reads to Students

Edward is tired of being an emu, so he decides to try being something else for a change. First he spends some time swimming with the seals. Next, he lounges with the lions. He even slithers with the snakes. But Edward soon discovers that being an emu may not be so bad after all. So he heads back to his pen, only to find a big surprise awaiting him . .

Students loved this wonderful story and the message it shares of just being happy being who we are.  Thanks Mr. Welburn.

Fourth Graders Visit a Wetland

Submitted by dorie.thatcher on

In fourth grade, students learn about the different environments we have in Utah, one of them being a wetland. After learning about the physical characteristics, and plants and animals of a wetland, students took a walk across the bridge to Salem Pond's Outdoor Wetland Classroom.  There students were able to identify many of the living things that are found in Utah's wetlands, as well as discuss some of the interactions between the animals and plants.

Fifth-graders at Salem Elementary recently participated in the Fifth Grade Science Fair.  Science fairs are a great way for students to take an active role in science. Fifth-graders used the Scientific Method to help them in understanding and expanding their knowledge of a specific science topic of their choice.  Many hours were spent researching and developing their presentations.  Students were able to present their scientific findings to students at the school during the day, and then to their parents later that evening.
