Moving Through Utah

Submitted by dorie.thatcher on

Fourth-grade teachers, along side Nebo School District's Dance Specialist Melanie Fillmore, used dance and movement to introduced the three regions of Utah: Rocky Mountain, Great Basin, and Colorado Plateau.

Students first marched and skipped the outlined of Utah.  Then students traveled to each of the three regions and made shapes with their bodies to represent each of them.  When students were in the Rocky Mountain region, students made high pointed, angular shapes with their bodies.  When students were in the Great Basin region students made low, round shapes.  When students were in the Colorado Plateau region, students middle, long, and flat shapes.

It was a fun way to help students visualize the characteristics in each region, and understand where they are on the map.
